Popping the Question at Disney World? – 17 Wonderful Places to Surprise Your Sweetheart with a Walt Disney World Proposal
Are you thinking of proposing soon to the love of your life? You’ve probably put a lot of thought into how and where you might do it. After all, you want to make this a thoughtful, unforgettable moment for both of you. Well, if you love Disney as much as we do, you might consider that Disney World getaway the perfect opportunity to propose. After all, what better place to say “Yes!” than at the Happiest Place on Earth?
Here are our favorite ideas for a fairytale proposal at Walt Disney World. From the popular spots to more unique options you might not think about, we’ve compiled a list that should give you plenty of ideas for your special day.
Ready to live happily ever after? Then let’s dive right in!
Cinderella Castle, The Magic Kingdom
We would be remiss if we didn’t start with the most popular (and most obvious) choice for a Walt Disney World proposal. The castle is the major landmark of The Magic Kingdom and is visible from most places in the park.
Multiple spots around the castle work well for proposals including the front portion facing Main Street USA, to the left along a path that leads to Fantasyland, or on the green of the Hub that creates a wider backdrop of the park. From any angle, Cinderella Castle is the perfect picturesque backdrop for asking your princess (or prince!) for the chance to live happily ever after.
Cinderella’s Wishing Well
Adjacent to Cinderella’s castle is a delightful little spot you may have missed during a busy visit to The Magic Kingdom. If you wander the pathway to the right of the castle toward Tomorrowland, you can find Cinderella’s Wishing Well. It’s a very cute spot that has a fairly secluded bench that – while rarely crowded – is popular for romantic photos. It will also make the perfect backdrop for making a wish and asking your beloved to make it come true!
Galaxy’s Edge – The Millennium Falcon, Hollywood Studios
If you and your partner love Star Wars (don’t we all?), there’s no better place to re-enact Han and Leia’s iconic first kiss than under the shadow of the Millennium Falcon. It’s a centerpiece of Galaxy’s Edge and a very popular background for photographs (and proposals, as we’ve seen a couple!). There are always plenty of PhotoPass photographers located around the Falcon ready to snap pictures! If you want something a little more intimate but still in a galaxy far, far away, you can make a quick exit from Smuggler’s Run into the interior corridors of the Falcon and take a moment to propose there.
Haunted Mansion, The Magic Kingdom
Many Happy Haunts await you at The Haunted Mansion. While it might not be the place you immediately consider for a proposal, it’s certainly a spot that highlights the “until death do us part” aspect of marriage.
More than that, the Haunted Mansion is one of the most popular classic dark rides in the Magic Kingdom with tons of fans all over the world. The outside façade is atmospheric without being outright scary or gory, which may appeal to those with a goth aesthetic and a love of all things spooky. Bonus points if you are visiting during the Halloween season.
Morocco Pavilion, EPCOT World Showcase
We’ve talked about how beautiful the Morocco Pavilion is before but we’ll say it again – this Pavilion is one of the most underrated spots in EPCOT’s World Showcase. As you wander through the back of the Bazaar area, you’ll find several beautiful fountains, including one located in The Fes House, an open-air courtyard. Even better, this location offers more privacy than many of the bigger, more crowded areas of the park. If your special someone prefers a quieter, more intimate moment, this just might be the perfect pick for you both.
Coral Reef Restaurant, EPCOT
Moody and atmospheric, the Coral Reef is a favorite for adult couples to have a quiet lunch or dinner together during their visit to EPCOT. It’s an underrated spot for a unique dining experience, though the menu is heavy on seafood. The massive aquarium viewing windows that takes up one entire wall of the restaurant certainly helps set the mood. For anyone who loves The Living Seas (or sea life in general), this makes a great spot for a dinner proposal.
The Crystal Palace, Magic Kingdom
Are you a Disney fanatic? Then you probably know about The Crystal Palace, one of the original dining locations that opened in The Magic Kingdom on opening day. The interior is bright and cheerful with tall windows and lots of light. Today, the Crystal Palace is a character dining buffet, so take that under consideration when you’re making your plans. However, it’s a popular breakfast spot if you want to start your day with a piece of Disney history – and make history yourself.
The Pont des Arts Bridge, EPCOT
The World Showcase has many beautiful pavilions, gardens, and fun look nooks that offer lovely spots right off the beaten path. One spot you might not consider is the bridge between the UK and France pavilions. This much smaller version of the Parisian original offers a fantastic backdrop of the Seven Seas Lagoon and the rest of the park.
Italy Courtyard, EPCOT
Another beautiful part of the World Showcase, the Italy pavilion has a giant courtyard that dominates the space. With the beautiful fountains and lovely statues that grace the area, you’ll have an incredibly romantic backdrop for a proposal.
The Hot Air Balloon (Aerophile/Disney Springs)
Looking for a romantic spot outside the parks? Why not look over at Disney Springs? There are many unique restaurants and exciting entertainment options that don’t require taking time out of your (already full) park days. Take a romantic ride in Aerophile the giant hot air balloon tethered over Disney Springs.
With a gorgeous view and a nice breeze, you’ll have the opportunity to take your time and make your proposal memorable.
Maharajah Jungle Trek, Animal Kingdom
Animal Kingdom has some of the most beautiful scenery of any of the Florida Disney parks. The Maharajah Jungle Trek is one of the prettier areas of the park. This self-guided walking tour takes you through Asian wildlife trails that blend animal enclosures with natural scenery. We think the tiger enclosure is a particularly picturesque spot for your big moment, as it’s themed to look like crumble stone ruins and adds an element of adventure and romance to your proposal.
Kingdom Crossing (The Tangled Tower), Magic Kingdom
You might wonder why an area designated as a bathroom spot is on our list – but have you seen this little corner of the Magic Kingdom? This area became one of the cutest (and incredibly well-themed) spots in New Fantasyland. The tower has an outdoor seating area and phone charging stations. There’s also a PhotoPass photographer often found in the area, especially at dusk and nighttime. You can have your photograph taken together with an illuminated Rapunzel’s lantern – then use the opportunity to pop that question! Just let the cast members know what you’re about to do so they can capture the moment on film.
The Tower of Terror, Hollywood Studios
Does the love of your life enjoy thrills (and have a sense of humor)? You could consider this unorthodox proposal – popping the question during a ride that drops you several stories in the air. If you want to get a reaction, then why not pop the question right before you’re about the drop? The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror also offers ride videos so you can immortalize the moment in live-action. (Just don’t drop the ring!)
The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, The Magic Kingdom
While this is technically an attraction for younger audiences, it’s a great opportunity to take a ride over Adventureland and pop the question. The spinning ride doesn’t move very quickly, and you can decide how high or low you fly – which makes it a moment to spend a few minutes alone together, especially if you both love Aladdin. It makes for a great moment to ask your favorite person to share a “Whole New World” with you. (Bonus points if you sing it!)
During Your Favorite Ride Together
What’s your favorite ride at Disney? You might be able to come up with a clever way to incorporate your favorite parts of Disney into a fantastic proposal. We’ve seen couples hold signs up during the drop of Splash Mountain – only visible on the photo after! There are many opportunities in attraction queues – like Belle’s Wishing Well in the Enchanted Tales queue and the underwater grotto at Under the Sea – that can help your partner live their Disney fantasies.
Tomorrowland at Night, The Magic Kingdom
Nothing beats the lights and retro-futuristic look of Tomorrowland once the sun goes down. While it’s a fun land during the day, the vibe is completely different – and much brighter – at night. It’s whimsical and
perfect for an evening proposal. If you want an aerial look at the park for your proposal, you might want to hop on The People Mover for a relaxing ride around Tomorrowland – and a chance for a private moment above the bustle of the theme park below.
During a Character Meet-and-Greet
Are you proposing to a princess lover? Is someone obsessed with Stitch? Why not bring your favorite characters into the proposal? Take your partner into a typical photo opportunity with a beloved Disney character and surprise them with the ring (and a hug from Mickey, Minnie, or another favorite). If you’re sneaky enough, you can let the handler know what’s happening before you start to bring them in on the surprise (and let the photographer know what’s coming so they’re prepped for the perfect shot).
Fireworks Dessert Party
Everyone loves watching Disney fireworks. One of the best ways to watch them at the parks is by booking one of Disney’s dessert parties! You’ll have delicious, sweet treats, drinks, and get first rate-viewing for the big show of the night. Since these are typically much less crowded than watching from Main Street, you’ll have the opportunity to take a knee without getting stepped on or jostled by other park-goers.
