Oga’s Cantina: Experience the #1 Intergalactic Pit Stop at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

The Walt Disney World Resort is known for kitschy cafes, cleverly themed quick-service restaurants, decadent dinner spots, and unique dining experiences. It would be near impossible for one person (or family) to visit each of them. Many of these experiences are well-known to Disney travelers. Others are little-known spots that Disney experts return to again and again. None of them, however, are quite like this little gem.

If you want to experience a vibrant, unexpectedly lively Star Wars-themed dining experience that takes you out of this world, then you should visit Oga’s Cantina.

Theming and Atmosphere

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the most popular land in Hollywood Studios, if not all of Walt Disney World.  Much like the Pandora area of Animal Kingdom, Star Wars: Galaxy Edge focuses on complete immersion.  When you arrive in Batuu (the fictional world depicted in this land), you enter a galactic outpost where the Rebel Alliance is hiding from the First Order as both vie for control of the planet. This theming goes far beyond the ride queues and experiences.

The moment you step into Oga’s Cantina, you find yourself transported into another world. The cantina is a  cacophony of music, dynamic lighting, and little touches that make you feel like you’ve walked into a dive bar to rival the Mos Eisley Cantina scene in Star Wars: A New Hope. Old-school Disney fans will love some of the little touches in the décor, including the presence of DJ-R-3X, the current DJ at Oga’s Cantina, and the former pilot of the Star Tours attraction.

Oga’s Cantina packs a lot of décor into a small space. The occupancy at any given moment is low by design.  You may find yourself close to your neighbors as this spot is nearly always at capacity. The centerpiece is the incredibly detailed circular bar where your bartenders are hard at work serving some truly outrageous drinks.

Dining & Drinks

Speaking of drinks, this is really where Oga’s Cantina shines. At the time of writing this article, Galaxy’s Edge does not have a full-service dining experience. While the area does have quick counter service locations  Docking Bay 7 and Ronto Roasters, both are casual dining experiences. As for Oga’s Cantina, it is more of a lounge and bar than a restaurant. The menu is heavy on drinks, including some unique and exciting options.

Often brightly colored with names like Jedi Mind Trick, The Outer Rim, or Jet Juice, the selection here is flavorful. If you are feeling particularly adventurous, we recommend the Fizzy Tauntaun, a vodka-based drink topped with “Buzzz” foam that makes your mouth tingle.

In contrast to most of the Disney cocktail lounges, all drinks at Oga’s Cantina are pre-made before the cantina opens for the day. This means you won’t be able to order any substitutions, nor will you be able to order off the menu. They also aren’t as strong as some other locations on the property (like The Polynesian’s Trader Sam’s or The Nomad Lounge at Disney’s Animal Kingdom). Still, they are delicious, if heavy on fruity and sweet flavors. Oga’s Cantina has beer and wine selections as well! They also have a beer flight that comes with a souvenir board and four “rancor tooth” glasses.

Given that it is an all-ages experience, the cantina does offer non-alcoholic options for younger travelers or those looking to experience the atmosphere instead of the alcohol. The Blue Bantha, in particular, is particularly eye-catching if you want something Instagram-worthy to share. This is a glass of Blue Milk  (another Galaxy’s Edge specialty beverage) with a giant Bantha-shaped cookie! Not only is it cute, but it’s also a tasty, sugary pick-me-up for a long afternoon in the parks.

There aren’t many food items on the menu, though the snacks are tasty. The Provisions menu is larger during breakfast hours and downsized later in the day. The snack mix blend – Batuu Bits – is quite popular for many guests, though there is also a savory option – The Happabore Sampler – that includes a selection of cured meats.

What to Expect

If you plan to visit Oga’s Cantina during your visit to Hollywood Studios, you will want to book a reservation as soon as possible. This is a highly coveted location for parkgoers, so you’ll want to act fast to make sure you’re able to fit it into your schedule. Because the Cantina is so popular, your reservation is capped at 45 minutes per stay. You also will have a two-drink limit per person at your party.

Despite the small size, most of the space is standing room only. Besides the usual space along the bar,  there are long tables on either side of the cantina where multiple parties are expected to use at the same time. It can get crowded in there quickly, so keep that in mind before bringing in any large purchases!  Even in the booths, you may find yourself sharing a table with another group of travelers.

Despite the focus on alcoholic beverages, the atmosphere is friendly to younger travelers. Don’t be concerned about bringing your children in, though be aware that it is a loud location. With the bar’s music,  crowds, and ambient noise, they might find it a little overwhelming (or exciting, depending on the circumstances!).

Overall Experience

This experience is a must for every Star Wars fan. It’s the closest you’ll ever get to spending time at Mos Eisley. You can easily find yourself spending too much time exploring all the little homages and nods in each nook and cranny of the lounge, especially as you savor your selection from their drink menu.

For Oga’s Cantina, we recommend going for the ambiance and theming more than the food. As a dining experience,  it does not have a lot to offer given the limited menu. Since each of the signature drinks is pre-mixed,  some might balk at the premium price tag attached. However, like a lounge, Oga’s Cantina certainly has a  lot of character. It’s a great addition to the Galaxy’s Edge experience that shouldn’t be missed during your time at Batuu!
