Homemade Pop Tarts just like the ones at Woody's Diner at Disney's Hollywood Studio

Homemade Pop Tarts

Better than the store-bought variety, these homemade pop tarts are absolutely tasty. You can switch up the jam to make any flavor you are craving. The one thing I love about these is that they are super convenient as snacks on the go (I am thinking to the theme parks).

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 6 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 whole pre-made refrigerated pie crusts from the Dairy case
  • 1/2 cup fruit jam, your favorite flavor, plus 1 tbsp for the icing
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp half and half
  • sprinkles
  • flour for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Line baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  3. Sprinkle flour on your work surface and place both pie crusts on top of the flour.
  4. Using a rolling pin, roll the circles until they measure 11 inches across.
  5. Using a sharp knife, cut the pie crusts into 9-inch squares. Subdivide into 3-inch strips. You should have 6 strips total.
  6. Spoon 1-2 tbsps of jam on each end of each of the strips.
  7. In a small mixing bowl, whisk the egg.
  8. Using a pastry brush, gently brush the egg mixture around the jam. Note: This will act like "glue" so that your pop tart will stick together.
  9. Fold the plain side of the strip over the side that has been prepared with the jam and egg.
  10. Use a fork to crimp the edges of the pop tart. Repeat with the remaining strips.
  11. Place the pop tarts on the baking sheet.
  12. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
  13. Cool completely.
  14. Whisk the powdered sugar, 1 tbsp jam, and 1-2 tbsp half and half together to make a thin icing.
  15. Spoon icing over each pop tart and then immediately sprinkle with sprinkles.
  16. Let the icing dry completely before serving.
  17. Enjoy!
