17 Unique Costume Ideas for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
Everyone knows Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is the best chance to show off your best Halloween costume ideas inside Disney parks! There are so many possibilities that it’s hard to narrow down a list of costume ideas for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. (More costumes to try means more excuses to head back to the park, though, right??)
Personally, we like to draw inspiration from Disney parks themselves. It lets you take advantage of your surroundings to create costumes you couldn’t get away with anywhere else. These Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party costume ideas emulate some of the most iconic parts of the most magical place on earth!
Wear Your Favorite Character on a Playing Card
Dressing up as your favorite Disney character is always a great choice. But have you considered putting your favorite character on a playing card? This unique twist on a classic costume idea pays homage to Alice in Wonderland along with whatever character you choose.
Just cut out felt rectangles or find 2 large pieces of poster board and secure them together with straps over your shoulders. Then use markers, paints, or glued-on cutouts to complete the look. A few of our favorite ideas include Simba or Mufasa on a King card, Maleficent on a Queen card, or Flynn Rider on the Joker card. But the possibilities are endless!
PeopleMover Cones
This cheeky homage to the iconic PeopleMover attraction makes for a great group costume. Just iron letters onto blank t-shirts and don a cone hat to complete the look! It’s quirky, instantly recognizable, and takes advantage of spending Halloween at Disney.
Glow Cube
Mimic the look of the iconic glow cubes that come in drinks all over Disney parks. Just put on a transparent or thin-colored rain poncho, then cover yourself in glow sticks to give yourself a luminescent quality. If you want to dress up as a specific glow cube, you can use dark-colored paint to draw a design onto the poncho. The glow sticks will shine through the rest of your poncho, illuminating your way all through Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
Pressed Penny
Just about every Disney fan has a pressed penny collection from their adventures around the parks. Become your favorite souvenir by dressing in gold or bronze-colored clothes (bonus points if it’s metallic fabric!), then use a fabric pen, Sharpie, or fabric paint to draw on a stretched image of your favorite pressed penny design. Make it your own!
If you want to really commit to the monochromatic look, consider using gold or bronze face paint or temporary bronze hair dye.
Character Silhouette
Dress all in black, then use a bleach pen to draw your favorite character’s silhouette to mimic the iconic souvenir silhouette portraits available at the Epcot World Showcase, Disney Springs, and Magic Kingdom.
Dole Whip
There are few Disney treats more iconic than Dole Whip. You’ll probably grab one while you’re there, so why not dress up like one?
This works best if you have long blonde hair (or a wig). Tease your hair into a tall, voluminous, twisting up-do to mimic the swirl on a Dole Whip soft-serve. This works with red-heads or other hair colors, too – just say you’re a different flavor of the classic dessert! You can even use temporary hair-dye or tinted hairspray to match your favorite flavor – lime, mango, orange, raspberry, strawberry, or a seasonal flavor. It’s all fair game!
Don’t forget to complete the look by dressing up as your favorite cup. You can’t go wrong with head-to-toe lemony yellow to match the classic Dole Whip float, or tan to look like a cone. You could even go with red-and-white Minnie polka dots or red with 2 of Mickey’s iconic yellow buttons.
Poison Candied Apple
We love this idea because it’s a two-for-one – you’re honoring delicious Disney treats and the classic poisoned apple from Snow White. It’s also a simple one. Wear puffy golden-brown pants (sweatpants will work) to mimic the crumbled topping on the bottom, a bright red shirt, and a headband with a brown stem sticking straight up. (Brunettes can use their own hair and hair product to get the look without a headband.)
Honor the EPCOT Spaceship Earth by Decking Out in Head-to-Toe Disco Glam
You can find EPCOT Spaceship Earth patterned clothes online, but we love the idea of going all-out with the accessories to fully commit to the look. Pop a fluffy petticoat underneath your skirt to create a round shape. Bedazzle your mask and pair it with a sparkling headband. And don’t be shy about adding some body glitter or highlighter to make you shine bright like a diamond.
Become a Life-Sized EPCOT World Showcase Passport
Don as much leather as you can find – bonus points if you have cowboy boots to complete the ensemble. Wear your EPCOT button, then safety-pin pictures of different EPCOT sites onto your lapels. You can even use stickers from your actual EPCOT World Showcase passport to complete the look (pop one sticker on each cheek for a super cute accent!).
Life-Sized Plushie
This is best with cuddly characters like Winnie the Pooh, but you can do it with any character that comes in a plush form and has an easily recognizable outfit. In Winnie the Pooh’s case, find a large red sweatshirt and billowy yellow sweatpants. Then add layers of padding underneath to give yourself a soft, huggable look. Wear ears or paint your face to complete the ensemble. Everywhere you go, people will want to snuggle you! Awww!
Embody The Kitchen Sink from the Beaches & Cream Soda Shop at Disney’s Beach Club Resort
This costume idea works best if you’re starting from scratch, with a plain shirt and pants you can paint on. Use daubs of fabric paint in ice cream colors, then paint on sprinkles and whipped cream swirls. Add fruity accessories like bright red cherry earrings or cupcake charms. Bonus points, this gives you a great excuse to spend the entire night with a treat in each hand!
Attending the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party with a crowd? Have each person dress up as a specific ingredient in The Kitchen Sink for an awesome group costume.
Channel Savi’s Creative Energy
If you’re a fan of building custom lightsabers at Savi’s Workshop, now’s your chance to mimic Savi’s style. Drape yourself in tan clothes (cargo pants would work great), don work boots and fingerless gloves, and pop a pair of goggles on top of your head. If you have a lightsaber, bring it along!
Refillable Popcorn Bucket
Everyone loves an extra serving of popcorn, so this costume will have you smiling all night. Wrap yourself in felt and decorate it like your favorite refillable popcorn bucket. Scrunch yellow or cream-colored paper and safety-pin them around your shoulders to look like your bucket’s overflowing with popcorn. Top it all off with a bright blue headband for your handle.
You could easily do this with a simple skirt and short combo, too. Draw the popcorn bucket design onto the skirt, cover a plain t-shirt in popcorn scrunches, and don’t forget your blue handle.
Orange Bird Thinking Orange Thoughts
While we could go on for DAYS with character costumes, we thought it worth mentioning Orange Bird because this sweet little guy isn’t as common when it comes to Halloween Party get-ups! He’s also super easy to replicate!
Just wear an orange sweater paired with light-colored pants, like khakis. Even jeans would work in a pinch! Orange or yellow pants would be ideal, but are probably not a standard in most wardrobes, LOL! A pair of yellow slip-on shoes will work well for your birdy feet, and a big, yellow circle of felt can be attached to your tummy with double-side tape to capture Orange Bird’s oh-so-adorable look.
But what about his leaves? Easy peasy, orange squeezy! You can craft a leafy headband by cutting out two leaves from stiff, green felt and gluing them to a headband. Or you could even do a super cute flower crown for more of a Disney-bounding look! Speaking of leaves, if you want to make long leaves of felt or green-painted cardboard, you can attach these to your arms for leaf wings. And if you want to pin a leafy tail to your belt loop in the back, that would be a ridiculously cute detail!
Lastly, Orange Bird thinks orange thoughts so that an additional costume accent could be an orange thought bubble attached to your headband with a bit of a wire, a long spring, or even a skewer. You can make the thought bubble from orange cardstock and draw a happy picture or write a happy word inside!
Your Favorite Disney Ride Vehicle
Ride your favorite ride all night long at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, whether that’s Dumbo, a teacup from the Mad Hatter’s tea party, or a Winnie the Pooh honey pot! (You could even get really ambitious and try to make a carousel horse!)
Just use a cardboard box, cutting out the bottom to make it hollow for yourself, and decorate it to your heart’s content! Cut out Dumbo’s face from posterboard or use yellow tissue paper to make dripping honey for 3D effects on your ride vehicle. Like the playing card costume, you can attach the box to yourself with shoulder straps. Wear matching pants, shoes, and a t-shirt, then don a pair of mouse ears to complete the look!
Haunted Mansion Ghost
One last ride-inspired costume that’s perfect for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is a Haunted Mansion ghost! Just dress up in an old-fashioned dress or suit and tie – preferably black or grey in color – and use makeup to put ghostly bags beneath your eyes and make your cheeks look gaunt. (If you’re really dedicated, you can use body paint to make yourself grey!) You can achieve the effect of a ghoulish glow by draping a shroud of light-blue tulle over yourself, pinning it in a few places to keep it secure. Now you’re ready for a haunting good time!
Dapper Dans
Our favorite musicians on Main Street, the Dapper Dans, make for excellent costume inspo for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party! Just don your best colorfully striped suit or dress, some fashionably matching shoes, and a straw hat! A matching bow tie is a great accessory for both guys and gals to help complete the look. This costume idea would be super fun to pull off as a family!
Half the fun of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is thinking up the quirkiest costume ideas imaginable. Don’t be afraid to get creative and try something a little zany! Hopefully, these suggestions got your ideas flowing.
