Thrill Rides and Roller Coasters

SeaWorld has some sensational roller coasters that are sure to please any thrill-seeker, especially as each one offers a truly unique ride experience. For example, Manta takes riders soaring through the sky as if they were swimming like a manta ray, in a prone position, facing the ground. Well, facing the ground when the coaster isn’t looping through one of its four inversions, that is!

The newly constructed Ice Breaker, which opened in 2022, is SeaWorld’s first multi-directional launch coaster. While it doesn’t have any inversions, it does create substantial airtime as it drops from steep angles at high speeds.

Speaking of new coasters, SeaWorld is set to launch Pipeline: The Surf Coaster in May of 2023! This new ride will secure guests atop a surfboard that moves under their feet as they travel over the track at high speeds. With guests practically standing straight up during the ride, it’s sure to be a novel experience for even the most seasoned of coaster pros!

Not to be outdone, the Kraken coaster suspends riders through seven total inversions, and Mako rounds out the roller coaster lineup with a more traditional high-speed swooping track.

Water Rides

Would it really be SeaWorld without water rides? Join an expedition and go on Journey to Atlantis, a log-flume ride with roller coaster elements. It’s an awesome mix of thrill ride, dark ride, and water ride!

Pro tip: raise your feet off of the ground after the big drop to avoid having your feet completely soaked!

You can also brave the rapids at Infinity Falls, which features a large drop that often soaks everyone in your party. Be prepared to be a little soggy when you get done with this one!

Kid Friendly Rides – Sesame Street Land

Most of SeaWorld’s kid-friendly attractions are all grouped together in Sesame Street Land. This area of the park is devoted to exploration, play, and creativity. It features multiple small carnival style rides that are sure to please the little ones. They can also meet their favorite Sesame Street characters or see them in the daily parade!

Animals and Shows

SeaWorld is known for its amazing aquatic performances. At the Orca Encounter show, resident whales perform tricks and jump out of the water in a dazzling display. Many guests love the precise and elegant performance at the Dolphin Encounter, which features multiple dolphins teaming up with their trainer to perform synchronized jumps and dives. There’s also the adorable Sea Lion and Otter Spotlight, which features both animals partaking in a comedic story as they showcase their unique talents with their trainers.

Every show is different, which makes them all well worth seeing! Just be sure to pay attention where you sit in the theater, since the front seats are usually in the splash zone! Each show has multiple performances every day, so it’s not too difficult to catch them all with a little planning.

If you’re looking to see the animals at your own pace, there are tons of individual viewing areas and exhibits showcasing the stars of the shows, as well as fish, penguins, rays, and more! There’s an entire area dedicated to Arctic animals towards the front of the park that many guests seem to forget about. However, with its friendly-faced beluga whales and whiskery walruses, it’s one of the coolest spots in SeaWorld Orlando! (Pro tip: those low habitat temps feel great on hot Florida afternoons!)

SeaWorld Orlando One Day Itinerary

If you want to ride all of the roller coasters and see all of the animal performances, you should get to the park early to ensure you have enough time for everything. In the afternoons, the park can get busy, resulting in long lines at the coasters. If you aren’t looking to spend a large portion of your day flying over the park at high speeds, you can easily visit the rest of the park at a slower pace.

Top Tips for the Perfect Day at SeaWorld Orlando

Launch Your Adventure from the Back of the Park

  • Start at the Back: Begin your day by heading straight to the back of the park where most rides are located.
  • Avoid Front Attractions: While other guests get caught up in the cute animal exhibits at the front, take advantage of shorter lines for rides.
  • Try the New Pipeline Coaster: Thrill-seekers tend to head to the new Pipeline coaster located towards the front of the park.

Speedy Thrills at Pacific Point Preserve

  • Quick Rides at Pacific Point Preserve: Skip to the Pacific Point Preserve area to ride Mako and Kraken with minimal waiting and avoid crowds.
  • Visit Antarctica for Penguins: Explore Antarctica and enjoy watching the penguins in their habitat.
  • Check Dolphin Show Time: Catch the dolphin show at the nearby Dolphin Theater; check showtimes to plan accordingly.
  • Ride Journey to Atlantis: Time permitting, enjoy the Journey to Atlantis water coaster before or after the dolphin show.

Tailor Your Park Experience to Your Interests

  • Park Exploration: Customize your park experience by exploring the attractions and rides that interest you, moving counterclockwise throughout the park.
  • Coaster Conquest: For avid coaster enthusiasts, consider starting with a dedicated “coaster lap” around the park before focusing on the animal exhibits and shows.
  • Animal Exhibit Adventure: Prioritize the captivating animal exhibits by starting your day in the back of the park at Antarctica to see the penguins. Continue counterclockwise, keeping track of showtimes.
  • Family Fun at Sesame Street Land: Families with children can delight in a visit to Sesame Street Land. However, if you’re enjoying the day without little ones, you have the option to skip this area and allocate your time elsewhere.

To start your day, it’s a good idea to head straight to the back of the park, where most of the rides are located. Most guests get caught up in the cute animal exhibits at the front (very understandable), so while they’re busy, you can snag a good spot in line for the rides. Other thrill-seekers are likely to head to the new Pipeline coaster once it opens, and it will be located towards the front of the park.

If you skip straight back to the Pacific Point Preserve area, you can quickly ride Mako and Kraken with very little wait time and stay away from most of the crowds. After that, you can make your way counterclockwise around the park, stopping in Antarctica to catch the penguins. Next, check the time and possibly hop in line up to see the dolphin show at the nearby Dolphin Theater. Depending on the time, you can ride Journey to Atlantis before or after the show.

From there, continue to making your way around the park counterclockwise, stopping to see or ride anything you may be interested in. If you want to ride every single coaster, you may want to considering making a “coaster lap” around then park, then going back around a second time to see all of the animal exhibits and shows.

Guests who don’t prioritize the roller coasters should spend the bulk of their time exploring the animal exhibits. Start your day in the back of the park in Antarctica with the penguins, then travel through the rest of the park counterclockwise, being sure to keep an eye on animal showtimes.

Of course, guests with kiddos will also want to enjoy a visit to Sesame Street Land, but if you’re enjoying the day without little ones, you can skip this area!

Time-Saving Tips

We recommend catching the animal shows during the afternoon, when wait times for the rides are at their highest. Though the shows can also fill up, it’s more likely you’ll find a spot for a show 10-15 minutes before it starts rather than a ride with only a 15-minute wait time. As a general rule, your time is much better spent seeing shows when the rest of the park is busier.

Be sure to prioritize the roller coasters if that’s what you came for. Since the park’s roller coasters can only handle so many visitors, they always end up with moderately long lines. To avoid the longest wait times, be sure to head to the coasters first thing in the morning. If someone in your family wants to ride roller coasters while others want to see animal shows, it’s okay to split up for an hour or two during your day. Just be sure everyone knows when and where to meet back up!

If you’re trying to make the most of your time at the park, Quick Queue can be an excellent investment. Quick Queue is SeaWorld’s version of Disney’s Lightning Lane (Fastpass) or Universal’s Express Pass, and is an additional cost of around $20 per person. It’s worth noting that most guests won’t have a problem seeing and doing everything they want during a full day, but if you’re looking to truly cover the entire park and save yourself from waiting in line, it’s a great deal.

General Park Tips

It’s fun to spend a few dollars buying food from one of the feeding stations and throwing it to the animals. You can get fish for the sea lions, rays, or dolphins near their enclosures if you want to partake in the fun!

When viewing animal shows, it’s best to sit about halfway up the stadium seating. That way, you’re out of the splash zone and have great views of the whole pool but aren’t so far back that it’s hard to see what’s going on. Seeing the animals swim under the water and prepare for their jumps is an amazing part of each show!

The main SeaWorld park is also connected to its Aquatica Water Park and luxury Discovery Cove experience. If you have extra time in your day and want more fun, both are worth checking out. Aquatica has lots of thrilling water slides and rides, while Discovery Cove is a relaxing spot to get up close and personal with lots of animals – by swimming with them! Discovery Cove is an all-inclusive experience that comes at a rather steep price, but guests looking for a quieter way to see animals may find the experience worth it.

If money is no object, then keep in mind that SeaWorld also offers a VIP tour that guarantees exclusive access to animal encounters and shows and front-of-the-line access to rides. With a private tour guide to show you the park, this 8-hour experience is a truly special way to experience SeaWorld!

Lastly, no matter what’s in store for your day at SeaWorld, we recommend dressing comfortably in shoes that are good for walking. Sunscreen is a must, and you may want to take along a hat and sunglasses as well. If you’re visiting during cooler months, a light jacket is nice to have – even if just for popping into the penguin exhibit!

SeaWorld is a great mix of inspiring animal shows, engaging exhibits, and heart-thumping roller coasters. We absolutely love spending the day here, and we hope our SeaWorld Orlando tips help you make the most of your visit, too!
