Top 9 Purr-fectly Charming Cat Cafes in Florida
Life really doesn’t get any better than petting cats and drinking coffee. Combining the two activities has undoubtedly been the biggest stroke of genius since Gutenberg invented the printing press. And it’s hard to beat mass-produced literature.
But in 2008, with the grand opening of Cat Flower Garden in Taiwan, cat cafes stepped up to challenge the previously unbeatable combo of Star Bucks and Barnes & Noble.1
Now a worldwide phenomenon, you can enjoy a cup of joe with a furry friend just about anywhere. Maybe you need some snuggles because you’re away from your own kitty on vacation, or maybe you’re looking to adopt (another) fur baby; either way, these cat cafes are sure to whisker you away!
There are so many great cat cafes in Florida, and if you ask me, checking them all out would make the ultimate #roadtrip. But for now, we’ve just narrowed it down to nine. Because, you know, “nine lives” and all that.
1. The Kitty Beautiful
360 State Ln, Orlando
A clever riff on “The City Beautiful,” this Orlando cat café is your number one stop for coffee and a cuddle – especially if you’re in town for a Disney World trip! While there are coffee options in the Magic Kingdom. . .could they really be more magical than connecting with a cat? As an unknown author once wrote, “all you need is love and a cat.”
The delicious lattes, tea, pastries, and free wi-fi? That’s just a Kitty Beautiful bonus.
If you feel the need to take one of these whiskered sweethearts home with you (same!), you’re in luck! Almost every cat at Kitty Beautiful is up for adoption. Partnering with CATS CAN, The Kitty Beautiful is helping rescued cats and kittens find their furever homes. (All cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to go!)
Even if you aren’t looking to adopt, don’t be shy about playing with the kitties! It’s good for the soul, and socializing helps them get used to people, which in turn helps them get adopted! It’s a win-win all the way!
2. Orlando Cat Café
532 Cagan Park Ave Suite 201-203, Clermont
The first cat café to open in Central Florida, Orlando Cat Café is “where the cool cats hang out!” (Though, arguably, aren’t all cats pretty cool??)
Because it’s one of the coolest cat cafes in Florida, Orlando Cat Café serves up Minch Coffee in the form of drip, cold brew, espresso, and even a Black Cat Mocha! Not in a coffee mood? You can opt for a KitTea Latte! Sweet treats on the side include scones, pie, and cheesecake.
Okay. Can we pawse right there? I mean, cats AND cheesecake?! This is it. The entirety of creation has officially peaked.
And while you might not think it’s possible to transcend any higher – that’s right, you guessed it – you can adopt these kitties, too!! Working with SPCA Florida, this cat café is finding homes for fur babies everyday. If you check out the café website, you’ll see mascot cat, Jean Luc, even has his own blog where he conducts “interviews” with adoptable cats!
Now that’s purretty cool. *adjusts sunglasses*
3. Cattyshack Café
9902 Gulf Coast Main St D-140, Fort Myers
Located in Fort Myers, Cattyshack Café is the purrfect place to stop if you’re in the area visiting the Edison & Ford Winter Estates! Relatively new to the list of Florida cat cafes, Cattyshack opened with the goal of being a solution for overcrowded shelters, providing space for cats who would otherwise be left on the street.
All cats at Cattyshack are from the Gulf Coast Humane Society, and are eager to find their new families! With so many adorably adoptable furballs, there’s never a shortage of sweet faces to welcome you into the Cat Lounge. While you connect with these cats, you can also sip on a “meowcha,” “catpurrcino,” or even a magical, color-changing Cheshire Cat Lemonade!
With the popularity of cat cafes (understandably) on the rise, Cattyshack highly recommends making a reservation to guarantee your kitty playtime! (The last thing we want is a cat-fight over who gets to sit in the Cat Lounge.)
4. The Witty Whisker Cat Café
112 N Ponce De Leon Blvd Unit A, St. Augustine
The Witty Whisker Cat Café is, purrhaps, one of the most unique cat cafes in Florida. In addition to iced lattes, Earl Grey, and highly pet-able cats, they also offer “Painting with Kitties” art classes on select evenings!
It’s like getting to be Bob Ross with his pet squirrel, Peapod, in the studio, except you have a kitten!! And don’t worry if you’re not an experienced painter – these classes are just about having creative, kitty-filled fun. As Leonardo da Vinci once said, “the smallest feline is a masterpiece.”2
Oh, and there’s not just art classes – The Witty Whisker also has live music nights with the cats, and they’re even getting ready to offer cat yoga! (AKA “meowditation.”)
These adoptable cats are ideal instructors for teaching you to master the finer things in life, so, be sure to make a reservation for their furtastic classes!
5. Frisky Cat Café
1092 S Ponce De Leon Blvd, St. Augustine
Also located in St. Augustine, the Frisky Cat Café is the go-to coffee stop for spontaneous cat lovers – walk-ins are totally welcome, as long as space permits! (Reservations can be made, too!)
Frisky Cat is notable among cat cafes because they specialize in featuring adult cats. Unfortunately, adults are often overlooked for adoption in shelters, but Frisky Cat knows they make some of the best-whiskered companions, and this café is determined to help these cats get their second chance.
So curl up with a delicious locally-roasted coffee and cuddle the day away with these furry friends! You’ll be giving them much-need affection after being stuck in shelters, and in return, they’ll shower you with wonderful head-boops and biscuit-making.
6. Good Luck Cat Café
901 Progresso Dr #202, Fort Lauderdale
The snuggliest place in Fort Lauderdale is definitely the Good Luck Cat Café!
Now, I’m pretty sure all cats and all cat cafes are inherently lucky. (Yes, even – and especially – black cats! They’re said to bring excellent fortune in Japan.3) But the Good Luck Cat Café is noteworthy because it actually relies entirely on luck – or rather, generous hearts.
While other cat cafes require a fee to enter the Cat Lounge (usually around $10), Good Luck runs on donations alone. Playing with kitties is free of charge! (Although we HIGHLY recommend a donation, as it goes to help find homes for fur babies!) Best of all, at Good Luck, there is NO time limit in the Cat Lounge! You can read (or write) an entire novel while in the presence of a clowder of cats.
Pawsitively wonderful!
7. The Cat Café South Beach
1423 Washington Ave, Miami Beach
Welcome to Purradise!
When am I going to run out of cat puns, you ask? Maybe never. But this one actually belongs to The Cat Café South Beach! And they certainly live up to it.
With a hip, peaceful environment, this is one of Florida’s most laid-back cat cafes. You can cuddle with adoptable cats and even unwind with a “purrlates” stretch class!
In addition to delectable coffees and teas, this cat café also serves up fresh-squeezed orange juice for a true taste of the Sunshine State! There’s also an adorable gift shop section just brimming with fine feline merch for both humans and cats.
(Protip: if you get a catnip mouse for your cat back home, they won’t be too mad about all the pets and snuggles you gave out to other cats.)
8. The Caffeinated Cat
331 1st Ave N, Jacksonville Beach
While “The Caffeinated Cat” name implies a next-level cat café where cats are the coffee-drinking patrons, I’m pretty sure these kitties aren’t actually caffeinated. Although, if I’m not careful, my tabby cat, Ella, will drink my morning coffee. . .so maybe that kind of cat café needs to be a thing??
Anyway, for now, you can get caffeinated and get your feline-fix in one fell swoop in Jacksonville Beach! They sell both coffee and wine, with plenty of scrumptious seasonal specialties. (Shout out to the “Turkish Van” coffee – a blend of caramel and maple that’s the same breed as my rescue, Jeremy!) Overall, The Caffeinated Cat’s best-known drink is probably the Black Cat espresso. Talk about getting the zoomies!
Luckily, this cat café hosts occasional events where you can put that energy to good use, like their “pet & painting” activities! Or you could go on a kitty-merch spending spree in the giftshop. One can never have too many cat mugs.
9. Tally Cat Café
2218 N Monroe St, Tallahassee
The meowvelous Tally Cat Café is one of the homiest cat cafés in Florida. A visit here is liable to give you the warm fuzzies!
While the kitties melt your heart, Tally Cat’s amazing menu will dazzle your taste buds. There are special cat-themed lattes (er, cattes) like the caramel and mocha “Tabby,” or “Kitten Kisses” featuring red velvet and marshmallow! You can also get hot chocolate, flavored lemonade, or Italian Soda. If you haven’t tried an Italian Soda, you need to – they’re so good!
While you enjoy your drink, delight in the tickle of whiskers and the feel of soft fur as you socialize with the adoptable residents. Each kitty cat at Tally Cat is from Leon County Humane Society. They are just as sweet as can be!
From coffee beans to toe beans, you can’t go wrong with a visit to a cat cafe!
After all, time spent with cats is never wasted. (=•́ܫ•̀=)
