Typhoon Lagoon Reopening in 2023 – What To Know for When the Fun Returns (Tickets, Rentals, Food, & More!)
Rumor has it… a Typhoon Lagoon reopening is imminent! The long-awaited day is almost here. (Or so we hope!)
Almost every year, Disney World closes its two water parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, during the winter months. As temperatures drop, so does the desire to swim, making winter the perfect time for Disney to conduct refurbishments on the slides and attractions at its water parks!
However, the parks have seen some unprecendented closures in the recent past, too.
Disney Water Parks – On Again, Off Again!
During March 2020, at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Disney World closed both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon along with the other parks. Due to health and safety concerns for WDW guests, Blizzard Beach remained closed for an entire year before finally welcoming guests again in March of 2021.
In January of 2022, Blizzard Beach closed again, but the re-opening of Typhoon Lagoon helped soften the blow! Typhoon Lagoon had been closed for almost two years, so folks were incredibly excited about the grand re-opening.
However, it didn’t last.
By November of 2022 – not even a year into its dazzling comeback – Typhoon Lagoon closed for refurbishments.
That brings us to today, and we are absolutely antsy with anticipation!
As we mentioned, the rumor is Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon has a reopening scheduled for early 2023. Some believe March 2023 could be the month, but Mickey still has no official word on the reopening date. A photo recently surfaced online of the refurbishment process for Typhoon Lagoon; it made it clear to see that construction on the Disney water park is actively happening. At least we know Mickey isn’t slacking!
So, what is there to know about Typhoon Lagoon when it does reopen? We’ll tell you!
Typhoon Lagoon Tickets
Tickets for Typhoon Lagoon can normally be purchased from Disney World’s website for less than $75.00 each. Some sites even offer discounts on the tickets, so it’s never a bad idea to price check on a few trusted sites!
Typhoon Lagoon Rentals
Something guests can rent at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park is a private Beachcomber Shack.
Picture this: shade, seating with cushions, and a private area for you and your crew to rest in between water park chaos. You’ll also get ice-cold water and refillable souvenir cups for free soda! Sounds amazing, right?
You’ll also have access to designated attendants who will help you throughout the day and put in your orders for snack foods. Now, that’s what we call VIP treatment!
Rentals range from $225 – $450 before tax. (Unfortunately, luxury does come with a price.) There are different package options to choose from, with more perks added the more you pay.
Typhoon Lagoon Food Options
Countless food, beverage, and snack options are available at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. Keep in mind, though, that this is a Disney water park, so all of the food options are all quick service booths. But would you really want to attend a sit-down meal in your swim trunks? We wouldn’t either.
So let’s break down the options:
- Surf Doggies: Surf Doggies is your go-to snack food stand for savory items. Enjoy a foot-long all-beef hot dog, a plant-based bratwurst, or a classic Mickey pretzel! Also, guests can order water, soda, or beer at Surf Doggies.
- Typhoon Tilly’s: Typhoon Tilly’s is perfect for a lunch or dinner item. The menu offers lettuce wraps, chicken strips, fish tacos, fish baskets, and even crabless crab cakes. You’ll also find ham, turkey, or PB&J sandwiches for the kiddos. The best part about Typhoon Tilly’s is the Geyser Lemonade! It’s a delicious mixture of blue raspberry, green apple, and lemonade.
- Leaning Palms: If Typhoon Tilly’s menu isn’t for you, you might be more at home under the shade of Leaning Palms. Here, you can order a jerk shrimp rice bowl, an incredible angus cheeseburger, pepperoni flatbread, chicken wrap, all-beef hot dog, Caribbean-spiced salad, or even an Impossible Island Burger! Leaning Palms truly has it all. Don’t skip the cauliflower tabbouleh if you decide to make a stop at this quick service option. (And don’t forget to try one of their milkshakes!)
- Snack Shack: The Snack Shack is the place to be. You simply have to order some loaded nachos with Walt’s Chili! (Even if just for name’s sake.) Snack Shack also offers a Hei Hei cone – aka dole whip with pineapple and raspberry – yummy! And, bonus, you can even get it in a waffle cone! If you’re over 21, soak up those tropical vibes at Typhoon Lagoon with a piña colada in hand.
- Lowtide Lou’s: Lowtide Lou’s is much like Leaning Palms and Typhoon Tilly’s, but it has far fewer options on the menu. Stop here if you want some Shrimp Louie Lettuce Wraps, a stuffed cream cheese pretzel, a jalapeño cheese pretzel, or a crowd favorite: one of those Minute Maid frozen strawberry lemonade cups. Delish!
- Let’s Go Slurpin’: What can one expect at Let’s Go Slurpin’ ? This is your ultimate alcoholic beverage spot. Try a Hang Ten Mojito, a Banana Cabana, a Black Cherry Lemonade, or a Strawberry Daiquiri. (Just to name a few!) Let’s Go Slurpin’ also offers beer and a very small selection of wine.
- Happy Landings Ice Cream: You’ll find delicious soft-serve piled high in waffle cones at Happy Landings Ice Cream! There’s also ice cream inside a sand pail to keep with the theme, classic Mickey-shaped ice cream sandwiches, hot fudge sundaes (YUM!), and our favorite on the menu… the EARidescent Ice Dream Cone. This treat is a birthday cake soft-serve with sprinkles, and the cone is dipped in white chocolate!
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Reopening – What To Bring
Once Typhoon Lagoon reopens, you’ll want a checklist so you don’t forget any of the important stuff!
Pack the water park essentials, including:
- Sun screen. Be sure to slather it on at least every two hours to avoid burns!
- Sun hat & sunglasses. Stylish and shady!
- Rash Guard. This nifty swimwear protects against the sun and dries fast to avoid that uncomfortable soggy feeling.
- Towel. You’re welcome to bring your own, if desired!
- Money. Unfortunately, admission and snacks aren’t free…
- ID. Even thought it’s a water park, you’ll still want this importmant item!
- Magic Band. If you’ve got a band, don’t forget to wear it! The accompanying perks extend to the waterparks, too. Oh, and according to planDisney, the bands are waterproof, so you’re good to go!
While Typhoon Lagoon remains closed (as of writing), a pattern has emerged since the pandemic: Disney will open one water park while closing and working on the other. We hope this changes in the future, but for now, we are thankful to be still able to visit Blizzard Beach while we wait on Typhoon Lagoon!
Here’s hoping we’ll splashing in both parks by this spring!
