La Hacienda de San Angel in EPCOT: An Authentic Taste of Marvelous Mexico
Welcome to La Hacienda de San Angel, home of authentic Mexican flavors and rich comfort food!
Located in EPCOT‘s Mexico Pavilion, La Hacienda will transport your taste buds to the gorgeous, windswept mountains of Mexico. Warm tortillas stuffed with fresh ingredients straight from the mercado will fill you up, stomach and soul.
Overlooking the sparkling waterfront of the World Showcase Lagoon, La Hacienda de San Angel is perfectly situated to become your favorite EPCOT dining experience.
A True Taste of Mexico
When we say La Hacienda has authentic Mexican flavors, we don’t mean “authentic” – heavy on the quotation marks – in the Taco Bell kind of way. (Although, I do love Taco Bell.) We mean authentic in the you’ve-crossed-the-border, welcome-to-Mexico kind of way.
According to Disney’s website, their corn tortillas are made fresh, in-house, every day. I didn’t appreciate the difference freshly-made tortillas could make until I had them, and it seriously takes a meal to the next level.
Additionally, La Hacienda serves up fresh salsa, ranging in flavor from sweet to spicy. Whether you prefer a kick of serrano pepper or the sweet tang of mango, you’ll be able to find the perfect topping for your taco!
Fun Fact: Did you know serrano peppers are 5 times – and sometimes up to 10 times – hotter than jalapeno peppers?? Choose your salsa wisely!1
You can cool your tongue with the sip of a handcrafted margarita, bursting with fruity flavors like lime, raspberry, and guava.
I don’t know about you, but my mouth is already watering, so let’s get right into the menu!
La Hacienda’s Menu – ¡Muy Delicioso!
La Hacienda de San Angel’s menu begins with an incredibly tempting list of appetizers. While it’s always wise to save room for the main course (not to mention dessert!), it’s difficult not to order at least three of these delicious starters.
Of course, chips and salsa are a given, but you can also order creamy queso or customizable guacamole for dipping as well. Yup, that’s right – you can customize your guac by adding in chipotle bacon and/or chorizo!
Calamares Fritos are also available to start the night (crispy calamari tossed with salsa macha and a side of chipotle aioli), or you can go for the Flautas, fired tortillas filled with chipotle chicken, potato, cheese, and Ranchera sauce.
Like I said, it’s easy to fill up on the appetizers here!
The entrees also comprise a mouth-watering portion of the menu, with everything from chicken, to pork, to seafood!
There are classics like Chile Relleno (served with black beans, rice, zucchini, cotija cheese, and red salsa) as well as more unique dishes like lobster tacos – or rather, Tacos de Langosta – with shredded cabbage, chipotle, mango relish, rice, and beans.
There are also four House Specialties. The most expensive items on the menu, they’re also the fanciest too. There’s the specially prepared Pescado del Dia (catch of the day), Osso Buco a la Mexicana (braised short rib with a side of carrots and roasted asparagus), Carne Asada (Ancho Agave marinated New York strip steak with roasted asparagus and poblano gratin potatoes), and the ultimate option: Parrillada del Mar (grilled shrimp, fish, and scallops served with veggies and corn tortillas).
The Parrillada del Mar, while the most expensive menu item ($68.00 as of writing), it serves two people, which makes it more reasonable – and rather handy!
If you would like a side – or an extra side – with your entree, you can choose from plantains, roasted asparagus, rice with beans, or poblano gratin potatoes for an extra $5.00 to $7.00.
Now, you’ve saved room for dessert, right?
Sweet corn ice cream, double chocolate sponge cake (pastel de chocolate), sorbets, and tres leches are all offered at La Hacienda, but the creme de le creme of their offerings is the Chocolate Fiesta Pyramid.
At $34.00, it’s definitely a splurge, but like the Parillada del Mar, it’s meant to be shared! This tasty architectural marvel is made of chocolate and filled with Mexican chocolate mousse and toffee and sits atop a perch of tres leches cake. Oh, and there’s ice cream on the side, too! If you’re looking to indulge and want to try a bit of every sweet thing La Hacienda has to offer, the Fiesta Pyramid is the way to go.
La Hacienda also offers a kids’ menu with Mexican foods that will be more appealing to their palates, as well as your standard fall-backs: chicken tenders and mac n cheese!
There’s also a selection of yummy hand-crafted margaritas for the adults to enjoy. ¡Salud!
Dining at La Hacienda
While several dining options across Walt Disney World are open for lunch and dinner – and some even for breakfast! – La Hacienda de San Angel is open for dinner only. (That’s how you know it’s fancy. And it probably takes time to get all of those tortillas ready!)
Open from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., La Hacienda can be a great place to end your day at EPCOT. With floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the World Showcase Lagoon, you can catch the spectacular Harmonious fireworks show from the comfort of the air-conditioned indoors! And who doesn’t like dinner and a show?
(Note that not every seat in the restaurant offers the best views. When making a reservation – which is necessary to dine at WDW table-service restaurants – we recommend asking about good seats for watching the show.)
While pricey, La Hacienda de San Angel is comparable to other Disney dining experiences. Disney lists the price range of this restaurant at $15.00 to $34.00 per adult, but we’d suggest budgeting $34.00 as the low end. Unless you only order an appetizer, you will definitely spend more than $15.00. (The cheapest entree, the Chile Relleno, is $27.00.)
If you enjoy Mexican food or want to see what it really tastes like, then La Hacienda is a great EPCOT dining option! With a warm atmosphere and beautiful view, dining here is a nice way to unwind after a day of adventuring.
