Disney Bullet Journaling – The Most Magical Way to Plan Your Day!

Bring the magic of Disney to your everyday life with Disney bullet journaling! Whether it’s making a to-do list, scheduling appointments, or keeping track of your reading list, you can do it in style with a bit of Disney whimsy. Even going to the dentist doesn’t seem quite so bad when you put a Mickey Mouse sticker next to it!

Bullet journaling is a great way to get organized, and it’s also a great creative outlet. Doodling, sweeping calligraphy, flower-pressing – your journal can be as simple or complex as you want! No matter how elaborate you decide to make it, keeping a bullet journal is thoroughly therapeutic.

And, when you decide to go with a Disney theme, it’s also extremely cute!

Bullet Journaling 101

If you’ve never kept a bullet journal before, don’t worry: it’s easy and fun to start one! And if you’re a pro-journaler, then hopefully this gives you some good inspo for some fun, new themes!

Bullet journaling is similar to keeping a regular journal, however, it focuses more heavily on aesthetics and lists rather than long, written descriptions of one’s day. Because of the “bullet” style, this journaling method is often quicker than traditional journaling and is great for folks with busy schedules. Think of it as journalistic scrapbooking!

Some people use bullet journals as planners, keeping track of upcoming meetings, errands to run, and their cat’s monthly flea prevention treatment. Others prefer to use a bullet journal as a tracker, jotting down a record of their daily steps, novel-in-progress word count, or movies they’ve watched. Whether you’re wanting to plan ahead or record your personal history (or both!) – a bullet journal is an especially fun way to go about it.

“Official” bullet journals are notebooks with dot grid paper, rather than lined or graph paper. However, you can still use the bullet journal method in whatever notebook you’d like. The best part of bullet journaling is the creative freedom! Never feel like your notebook isn’t fancy or enough – or too fancy – to become a bullet journal.

While all you truly need to get started is a favorite pencil or pen, it’s common to spice things up with colored markers and highlighters, fun stickers, washi tape, and patterned scrap paper. Some people even press flowers and leaves to tape into their journals, which not only brings a lovely natural aesthetic to the page but is also a unique physical record of something the journaler found beautiful.

Disney’s Adorable Happy Planner

If you’re planning your first bullet journal, or your main concern is simply organizing your schedule, you may want to opt for a pre-made Disney Happy Planner.

For Christmas, I was gifted a Disney Happy Planner that includes both ready-made calendar pages and grid dot sections for traditional bullet journaling. Along with my planner came a matching sticker book, filled with over 500 stickers of Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, and Daisy. (Score!!!)

Stickers are at the heart of my bullet journaling. They add so much character in so little time! I love to doodle my own accents here and there, but sometimes I get carried away, which means it takes me longer to make my to-do list than actually do the things on it! LOL! That’s where stickers come in really handy – they keep me on schedule. Stamps are also excellent and add a wonderful vintage flair.

I like to use small stickers on the calendar page to denote when something out-of-the-ordinary is happening, like a birthday, anniversary, or special meeting. Off to the side, in the grid-dot space, is where I explain what’s going on, but I save any real detail for the day-by-day pages. That’s where I put times and specifics for special events, as well as daily work tasks.

While the Happy Planner itself is already Disney-fied, I turn it into an act of Disney bullet journaling by adding in the stickers, highlighting things with colored markers, and making an attempt at having pretty handwriting.

It’s a nice mixture of bullet journal creativity without the daunting feeling of having to decorate it all.

But, if you want total creative liberty, or are more focused on the cool record-keeping aspect, then Disney bullet journaling is best-done freestyle.

Disney Bullet Journaling: Authentically Freestyle

Now, this is where the fun begins!

As you’ve noticed by now from the pictures, I’m not a calligrapher or graphic artist. But that doesn’t stop me from keeping a Disney bullet journal! It’s about having fun, so don’t be intimated by the artistic aspect. Your journal is for you, after all!

You can journal about absolutely anything, but in order to create nice, graphic records, you’ll probably want something quantifiable. Many people choose to have monthly or weekly pages on particular topics. Here are some ideas for things to make pages about:

  • Reading List
  • Seasonal Bucket List
  • Watering Schedule for House Plants
  • Workout Schedule
  • Movies Watched/To Be Watched
  • Favorite Recipes
  • Mood Tracker
  • Goals and Resolutions
  • Birdwatching Tracker
  • MouseEarsTV Article Ideas

Okay, so, maybe the last one is a little specific, but you get the gist of it! Pages like this can all be part of a Disney bullet journal! How? I find the easiest way to do it is to choose a character or movie for the aesthetic.

For example, you could use green, purple, and yellow markers for a Tangled theme. Doodles of flowers or lanterns – and a chameleon if you’re feeling ambitious – would be great additions to the corners or the edge of the page. If you didn’t feel like drawing, you could just print a picture of Pascal the chameleon and tape it in! I promise there is no such thing as cheating when creating a Disney bullet journal.

The Disney-Pixar movie Up is also incredibly popular as a tracker aesthetic, as balloons are colored in to coordinate with a key. (For example, daily weather might be tracked using a spectrum of colors that correspond to increments of temperature.) Other Up-related pages might include Wilderness Explorer Badges for completed tasks on a to-do list or tracking your mood by coloring in Kevin’s feathers. You also can’t go wrong with Dug and pile of tennis balls!

Aesthetic Ideas for Disney Bullet Journal “Tracker” Pages:

  • Cinderella and her birds (color in birds to track)
  • Mrs. Potts pouring tea (color in tea drops to track)
  • Beast’s enchanted rose (color in flower petals to track)
  • The Seven Dwarves (good for a week-long page, color their hats)
  • Tangled (color in floating lanterns to track)
  • Toy Story claw machine (color in toy aliens to track)
  • Pinocchio (draw and/or color wishing stars to track)

And, for those of you who, like me, can’t stop singing We Don’t Talk About Bruno, you can even have a page with him and his rats. (Example: for every milestone achieved, Bruno gets another rat.)

Again, it’s up to you how intensive you want your Disney bullet journaling to be! For my “Reading List” I kept things pretty simple and went for a Disney vibe more than anything else. I added a relevant quote from Walt Disney about books and matched my color scheme to a Minnie Mouse sticker I wanted to use. I also happened to have some Disney tissue paper, so I taped a bit of it on the page for 3D interest. Lastly, I made my bullet points mouse ears that could be colored in whenever I finish a book on the list. And that was it!

For my novel word count tracker, I used the aforementioned Dug with tennis balls idea which required a bit of coloring and sketching. It definitely took more time to make than my Reading List page, but it’s also a page I’ll probably be using for…well, who knows how long. So, I wanted it to be extra fun!

Not every page has to be Disney-themed, but I do love adding Disney flair into my bullet journaling because it’s so inspiring. It gives me parameters to work in, so I’m never feeling at a total loss for what to do for a page. With so many movies and characters, there are endless themes to liven up my record keeping. But the biggest reason I combined Disney with my bullet journaling is because it makes my heart happy to read an uplifting quote by Walt or see Mickey’s smile every day.

When I plan or record my day in Disney-style, it helps make it that much brighter!
